New Horticulture Agent to Speak at FCL Fall Council Meeting
| Clemson Extension’s Family & Community Leaders (FCL) will hold its Fall Council Meeting on Tuesday, October 13 at 2 p.m. in the Clemson Extension auditorium, located in the Bernard Warshaw Complex at 219 S. Lemacks Street. FCL Council president Eloise Robertson, of the Bells-Ruffin FCL Club, will preside. |
The guest speaker will be Extension horticulture agent Laura Lee Rose, who will share the value of “Horticulture Therapy”. Her presentation will be followed by a business meeting and refreshments.
Members are invited to bring a hand-crafted items or canned goods to enter into the Heritage Skills Competition. Three items from Colleton County will be selected for submission at the state competition, which is held at the state FCL conference.
The Family & Community Leaders is a service organization that focuses on family life and community service. In Colleton County, there are two FCL clubs plus a number of independent members. Mrs. Sallie Stephens serves as the president of the Cottageville-Ruffin-Williams (or CWR) Club, and Mrs. Sherry Strickland is president of the Bells-Ruffin Club. The clubs meet monthly in their respective communities, then meet jointly in Walterboro twice a year for FCL Council Meetings. Members of both clubs also attend district meetings in Santee and an annual conference which, this October, will be at the White Oak Conference Center in Winnsboro.
