The Cottageville election for town council unofficially brought 182 registered voters to the polls. Political newcomer Debbie McMillen racked in the majority of votes, 121, to secure a seat on the council. Voters cast 105 ballots for Jimmie Ramsey, who served a prior term on the Cottageville Town Council. Incumbent Candidate Peggy Thomas received 74 votes and Write-in Candidate Paul Null had 52.
McMillen and Ramsey said that they have a desire to reduce the town’s budget from nearly three quarters of a million dollars. One solution McMillen identified to reduce the town’s budget is to trim administration costs overall.
“We need to move forward…we need to cut the budget,” said Ramsey. We need to get this town back to small. The people of this town have already voiced their opinion, they do not want water and sewer.”
Ramsey said he would like to attract new business to the community through establishing incentives that will make the Town of Cottageville attractive.
In Edisto Beach, three candidates vied for two council seats. In unofficial results, voters casts 322(W) ballots for Candidate Babe Hutto, 318(W) ballots for Candidate Tommy Mann and 147 ballots for Jane Darby.
The Town of Lodge had a write-in candidate for the mayoral seat. Voters wrote-in 35 ballots for Roy Fender. Candidate Larry Carter received 37(W) votes and Brenda Darby received 37(W) votes to secure seats on the council.
All numbers posted in this article are unofficial. The election totals will be certified on Thursday.
