The Walterboro Cruisers held their annual Veteran’s Victory House car and truck show, last Saturday.  According to the staff and residents of the Veteran’s Victory House, the residents were up and waiting at 0700 hours EST for the big show to begin.

The Walterboro Cruisers led by David Thomas, president of the Walterboro Cruisers and retiree of the Army and National Guard gave the order to Fall in. After which time, none of the comrades were missing in action.

LISTEN UP. On display were the World War II era jeeps from the Parris Island Historical and Museum Society, which some say remind them of the rat patrol. The most attention grabbing jeep was the one that had the 30 caliber machine gun mounted on the rear.

Veteran’s Victory House Executive Director LeeAnn Newton described the show as a huge success, which the residents enjoyed. Spectators and participants are still calling and commenting on a job well done. The Walterboro Cruisers put a lot of hard work in planning the event. A big salute goes to Cathy Crosby, Jackie Dasen, and other ladies that worked diligently around the clock preparing for the show.

The Walterboro Cruisers extends special thanks to the sponsors of this event:

At the second annual Car and Truck Show hosted by the Walterboro Cruisers, there were approximately 150 cars participating and $6,677.00 was raised in support of the veterans. Thirty trophies, 3 rat rods made and donated by Ed Crews, Buddy Ulmer, and Blocker Boys Construction, and 1 car club donated by CDT were awarded to the winning participants. The Walterboro Cruisers also help the community in other ways including providing Hospice meals at Thanksgiving, Senior meals at Christmas, and gifts are given to kids by Santa Claus at their annual Christmas Car Show.

AT EASE. Next year, to boost the civilian participation at the annual Car show, the Walterboro Cruisers will authorize a mandatory 2010 draft to re-enlist all area veterans to attend with their family and friends. In remembrance of a former US Air Force airman Robert Martin of Walterboro. FALL OUT.
