Farmers’ Market Extends Season Through Holidays
| The Walterboro Farmers’ Market will extend its season through the holiday season according to Clemson Extension agent Marilyn Peters. It will be open almost every Friday during November and December, at 506 E. Washington Street, from noon until dusk. Special market days will be planned to accommodate shoppers for the Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s holidays. |
The Walterboro Farmers Market specializes in locally-grown and South Carolina fruits and vegetables, herbs, eggs, ornamental plants, and hand-crafted items. Colleton County farms selling their fall and winter harvests include J & V Produce, Zander Plants & Produce, R & S Produce, and The Herb Lady. Other regular vendors include Gruber Farm from Dorchester County, Jeannie’s Crafts, Caddy Shack Nursery, The Brass Onion, and the newest vendor, La Giardineria, offers fresh bread, pasta and cheese.
Local fall gardens and farms have been producing squash, cucumbers, tomatoes, sweet potatoes, melons, zucchini, herbs, peppers, sugar cane, grits, cornmeal, eggs, and more.
Farmers, fishermen, gardeners, crafters and caterers are invited to sell at the Farmers Market for a daily fee of $5 per 10-foot space. Vendor applications and market rules are available at the Clemson Extension office and at the market.
There is also a Community Booth available to local non-profit organizations at no charge. They are invited to share educational materials and to sell items for fundraising. Reservations for use of the Community Booth are required.
